Sara Stern-Nezer, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Neurology, has been selected for the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Emerging Leaders Development program.
The program engages, talented early-career faculty who have the disposition to lead and are interested in future roles within the AAN and the field of neurology. This six-month training opportunity offers knowledge and skill development to help advance career goals.
”Dr. Stern-Nezer is an outstanding early career neurologist and teacher, “ said Claire Henchcliffe, MD, DPhil, the Stanley van den Noort Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the UCI School of Medicine. “Her selection for this highly competitive program will provide her a great platform to grow even more.”
Dr. Stern-Nezer’s research interests include clinical trials in neurocritical care and stroke, quality improvement, sleep and medical education. She also is focused on long-term outcomes after acute neurological injury, including cognitive changes, fatigue and depression.
She holds several positions in the School of Medicine including Dean's Scholar, Neurosciences Clinical Course Director and Neurology Clerkship Director, and she is passionate about finding better ways to train and mentor the next generation of doctors. She was recently named division chief of Neurocritical Care.
Dr. Stern-Nezer earned her medical degree at Stanford School of Medicine, followed by an internal medicine internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and a neurology residency at Stanford Hospital. She also completed a fellowship in neurocritical care at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
The program is an all-expenses-paid leadership development opportunity that incorporates executive leadership education, collaboration with peers on a group project, 1:1 leadership coaching, and mentoring opportunities to lead self, others, and the field of neurology.
