From John Polak

Agents,

A collective sigh of relief was heard across Texas as December rolled in bringing with it the end of the 2016 hurricane season. Some may assume this is when TWIA hits cruise control and coasts along until May when hurricane preparedness season picks back up. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

The fact is we are preparing year-round to respond to all types and magnitudes of hail and windstorms – not just hurricanes. At the moment, we are ensuring we are prepared for the upcoming spring storm season, when hail has proven to be the most frequent and destructive peril – even along the coast.

We’ve also begun our annual review process in preparation for the 2017 hurricane season which includes evaluating our reinsurance needs and Catastrophe Reserve Trust Fund (CRTF) levels. Since we didn’t have a hurricane this year and have experienced fewer hail storms than expected, we are projecting to deposit more than $130 million into the CRTF, further strengthening our funding and readiness level.

The bottom line is that no matter the season – whether it be quiet or active – we are stable, on alert, and always preparing for the next wind, hail, or hurricane event to ensure we will be there when policyholders need us most.

Sincerely,

John
