The inaugural winner of the Clinical Informatics Physician Leadership Award from the American Medical Informatics Association is Scott Rudkin, MD, MBA, clinical professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and chief medical information officer at UCI.
Rudkin has embodied what a physician informatics leader is from having the vision and leadership to establish the clinical informatics fellowship at UCI and CHOC, to taking on the enormous task of moving the entire UCI health system from one EMR system to another. He is also a mentor to junior faculty and our fellows and is an excellent advocate to all, including nursing informatics and non-clinical informatics research.
Amongst his responsibilities, he was in charge of leading the Epic implementation at UCI. As a CMIO, he also led the joint governance with UC San Diego, and demonstrated excellent skills in leadership, project management and informatics knowledge.
His concrete accomplishments are just as impressive as his personal charisma, passion, and concern for both people and results. During the pandemic, Rudkin led the team to start Telehealth in under three weeks. It is the combination of the quantity and quality of his accomplishments along with his ability to inspire us to transform and to follow him to a brighter future that makes Rudkin an exceptional physical leader. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Rudkin for this award.
