October 2022 was National Arts and Humanities Month. President Biden’s September 30th proclamation begins by stating that, “(t)he arts, the humanities, and museum and library services are essential to the well-being, health, vitality, and democracy of our Nation.” This statement encapsulates the work of PMHA which continues to thrive through its many connections across the School of Medicine. As a hub for PMHA, the Department of Family Medicine is a testament to how humanities and arts are woven into well-being, health, and vitality.
Plexus – A UCI School of Medicine Arts and Humanities Journal: The 2022 Illumination Plexus issue is out and available at the Plexus website or through escholarship.org. The Grunigen Medical Library initiated the conversation to upload all Plexus and Project Hx in escholarship.org thus broadening our outreach and contributing to UC’s Open Access effort. The 2023 call for creative work on the theme of Identity will be out soon. Submissions from faculty, staff, and students who are poets, creative writers, photographers, artists, and artists practicing in cross-disciplinary art forms, are welcome.
