In an update to a Stanford University-led study, 445 UCI faculty have been identified among the top two percent of scientists in the world. Nearly a quarter of the UCI faculty are from the UCI School of Medicine.. Among them are Geoffrey Abbott, Alpesh Amin, Tallie Z. Baram, Emiliana Borrelli, Michael Cahalan, Ralph Clayman, Dan Cooper, Philip Felgner, Christine Gall, Al Goldin, Steve Goldstein, Rozanne Sandri-Goldin, Klemens Hertel, Todd Holmes, Daniele Piomelli, Paolo Sassone-Corsi, Oswald Steward, and many, many more.
“I want to extend my congratulations to the many brilliant UCI scientists and physicians on this list,” said Michael J. Stamos, MD, dean of the UCI School of Medicine. “Due to the many talented men and women scientists dedicated to ground-breaking research, UCI leads the way for innovative discoveries, not only here in Orange County, but around the world.”
The new update builds on an original study done in 2019, when a team of researchers, led by Stanford University’s John Ioannidis, compiled an exhaustive list containing more than one million scientists from around the world. The database gathered information from Scopus, which tracks academic journal entries, rankings, and citation indexes. The updated study identifies the top two percent of scientists, out of the more than seven million in the world.
