Jose Mayorga, MD, executive medical director, UCI Health Family Health Center
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has nationally recognized the UCI Health Family Health Center for their ongoing improvement in diabetes management.
The UCI Health Family Health Center, located in Santa Ana and Anaheim, is the oldest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Orange County. Since 1985, the center has trained medical students, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and residents in the areas of family medicine, pediatrics and OB GYN. Many of the center’s alumni have also gone on to work in underserved communities.
Last year, we had 82,269 patient visits and provided care to approximately 23,000 patients, one-third of whom were children. In addition, the health center cares for the whole person – providing medical, dental, behavioral and social health services.
Our FQHC has a long-standing history of innovative care through group medical visits, and providing integrative medicine which includes acupuncture and mindfulness programs as well as a teaching kitchen. It takes an extraordinary team to provide care for all of these needs.
The FQHC team, led by Dr. Jose Mayorga, takes great pride in caring for the most vulnerable in Orange County. The team also recognizes the need to address the social injustices faced by many of our patients, and supports providing programs that improve the inequities that exist.
Now more than ever, UCI Health’s FHQC is strongly committed to serving our patients that are disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic..
Join me in congratulating Dr. Mayorga and the UCI Health Family Health Center.
