UCI Health has again been recognized for surgical excellence by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). For more than a decade, UCI Health has participated in the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), the nation’s only data-driven measure of surgical excellence. This rigorous assessment has helped them improve patient safety and outcomes.
Each year, the NSQIP recognition program recognizes and honors a select group of hospitals for achieving a meritorious composite score in either an “All Cases” category or a category which includes only “High Risk” cases. Scores were determined through an assessment of eight clinical outcomes, including: - Mortality
- Cardiac: cardiac arrest and myocardial infarction
- Pneumonia
- Unplanned Intubation
- Ventilator use for more than 48 hours per patient
- Renal Failure
- SSI: superficial incisional SSI, deep incisional SSI, and organ/space SSI
- UTI: urinary tract infection
For 2020, UCI Health was one of only 24 hospitals among more than 770 across the country to have achieved excellence in both categories, “All Cases,” and “High Risk” cases, for more than two consecutive years. UCI Health is the only academic medical center in California with this recognition.
Take a look at the full list of NSQIP-recognized hospitals.
