Cuisine of the Veneto in Padova

We begin with a visit to the historic open-air market in Padua, discussing the importance of seasonal, fresh produce to Italian cuisine and ducking into the 13th century sotto salone to view the cheese shops and butchers located underneath.

At the end of our walk, we head to a nearby restaurant, where we have reserved a private dining room to enjoy a fixed lunch of local specialties. Our expert culinary docent will guide this multi-course annotated lunch of seasonal cuisine. The lunch will be accompanied by different wines specially selected to enhance the flavors and textures of the dishes. As we savor our lunch, our docent will provide "annotation" on the history of Veneto cuisine, the components of a typical meal, and the incredibly rich array of fresh ingredients (many from the market outside) that comprise our meal.
