Darci Trader, PhD

Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences

Targeted protein degradation has become a powerful therapeutic tool, yet its reach is limited to proteins that can be readily ubiquitinated and requires ligands for specific E3 ligases. Dr. Trader will present a new methodology, ByeTAC, that bypasses this dependency by directly recruiting a protein of interest to the 26S proteasome for degradation. A chemical biologist focused on cancer drug discovery, Dr. Trader’s research spans proteasome biology and protein degradation to translate insights in protein homeostasis into therapeutic strategies for cancer.
