Call for Applications: ELAM and ELH Leadership Programs for 2027–28

Dear Colleagues,

The UC Irvine School of Medicine Dean’s Office is now accepting applications for the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) and Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) programs, offered by Drexel University College of Medicine for the 2027–28 cycle. These nationally recognized programs are designed to prepare faculty for senior leadership roles in academic medicine and healthcare. All qualified faculty are encouraged to apply to either program. A committee of senior leaders will review the candidates. The UC Irvine School of Medicine Dean’s Office will nominate two applicants for ELAM and ELH.

Program Overviews 

​​​​Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)
ELAM is a year-long, intensive leadership development program for faculty in academic medicine, dentistry and public health. It includes strategic finance, organizational dynamics, and personal leadership effectiveness, supported by individualized coaching, networking and mentoring.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Associate Professor rank for at least two years
  • Prior administrative experience
  • Clear interest in attaining a leadership role (e.g., Chief, Chair, Associate Dean, Vice Dean)
  • Ongoing or potential leadership growth within the institution

Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH)
ELH is a year-long, part-time fellowship designed to equip leaders with the skills to reach their full leadership potential within healthcare systems.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Associate Professor rank for at least two years
  • Leadership experience at the program level
  • Institutional-level responsibilities (e.g., operations or strategy)
  • Aspirations for executive health system roles (e.g., CMO, CQO, CIO, Medical Director)

Strong Candidate Profiles for ELAM and ELH include: 
  • Evidence of strategic leadership and risk-taking
  • Record of formal/informal leadership development or mentoring
  • Clear rationale for seeking leadership roles and a thoughtful five-year leadership trajectory

UC Irvine Internal Application Process

To be considered for institutional nomination by the School of Medicine, please submit the following materials:
  1. Current CV or NIH biosketch. 

  2. Short essays for each of the following questions:

    • Description of your current position and responsibilities
    • Your specific five-year career and leadership goal
    • How participation in this program will help achieve those goals
    • Identification of the most important issue facing your institution
    • Your proposed strategy to address this issue if you were in an executive role
    • Your personal leadership philosophy and how it applies to your current role
