About this event

Special presentation by Estée Lauder – awarding the first Estée Lauder Epigenetics Fellowship Award

The Inaugural Paolo Sassone-Corsi Lectureship is presented by Estée Lauder, and organized by the Center for Epigenetics and Metabolism and the Department of Biological Chemistry at UCI School of Medicine. This year's speaker is Ronald M. Evans, Ph.D.

Ronald M. Evans, Ph.D., is Professor and Head of the Gene Expression Laboratory, and the March of Dimes Chair in Molecular and Developmental Biology at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Evans is an authority on hormones, both their normal activities and their roles in disease. He is known for the discovery of a nuclear receptor superfamily for steroids, which are primary targets in the treatment of many cancers including: leukemia, lymphoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer and pancreatic cancer. Evans’ studies also provided new insights into the treatment of obesity and adult onset diabetes. Evans is a recipient numerous honors, including the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award and the Wolf Prize in Medicine. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Inventors. Consistent with the broad impact of his work, he is listed by the Institute of Scientific Information as one of the most cited scientists of the past decade. Evans received his bachelor’s degree in bacteriology and his doctoral degree in microbiology and immunology from UCLA. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University in New York before joining the Salk Institute in 1978. Ron is a long-time friend and collaborator of Paolo's and we are honored that he is serving as our distinguished inaugural speaker.
