David Lynch, MD, was recently selected for a Clin-STAR Pilot Grant. Lynch received the award based on his proposal: Using Metabolomics to Identify Drivers of Muscle Weakness and Functional Decline for Older Adults. His long-term research goal is improving older adults’ physical function and quality of life through targeted interventions that address and change causal biological pathways. | |
| | New Online Arthritis Tool Kit for Health Professionals Launched, Developed in Collaboration With OAAA |

Developed using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Arthritis Program funding and in collaboration with the Osteoarthritis Action Alliance (OAAA), the toolkit features descriptions and links to arthritis-appropriate evidence-based interventions and affiliated programs, comparisons of programs, and external resources that can assist with program discovery and long-term maintenance. | |

Susie Martinelli, MD, professor of anesthesiology and Anesthesiology Residency Program director, was selected from a national pool to serve on the ACGME Anesthesiology Residency Review Committee. The committee is composed of 12 individuals and are responsible for setting and enforcing the standards of educational training in all programs across the United States. | |

| DuMez Wins People’s Choice Award for 3-minute Thesis Competition |

Rachel DuMez, a graduate student in the curriculum in genetics and molecular biology, won the peoples’ choice award for her presentation about the health benefits of kombucha as part of University Research Week. Other winners were also selected. | |

Nancy Raab-Traub, PhD, is known internationally as a virologist, microbiologist, and dedicated professor. Having received a Sarah Graham Kennan Distinguished Professorship from the School of Medicine, Raab-Traub continues, after 40 years of teaching, to serve as an adjunct professor, mentoring and advocating for promotions in the field, especially for women and underrepresented minorities. For over 20 years, she has led the Virology Program in the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and has continued to garner grant funding for cutting-edge cancer research. | |
