Honors and Awards
UNC School of Medicine Awarded $3 Million for Emerging Pathogen Preparedness and Training
UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases and critical care experts William Fischer, MD, and David Wohl, MD, in collaboration with UNC Hospitals colleagues, will lead a Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response.
 
Wilson Receives Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award
Lindsay Wilson, MD, MPH, received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the UNC School of Medicine Student Government. Presented at the Fall Convocation and Award Ceremony, the award recognizes Wilson for her compassion, empathy, respect, cultural sensitivity, communication skills and professional ethical standards in the delivery of care.
 
Alin joins Governor’s NC Appointed Council on Sickle Cell Disease and Other Blood Disorders
Tara Alin, a nurse practitioner within the Division of Hematology in the Department of Medicine and provider in UNC’s Sickle Cell Program, has been appointed to the Governor’s NC Appointed Council on Sickle Cell Disease and Other Blood Disorders.
 
Boyce Receives Jefferson-Pilot Fellowship in Academic Medicine
Ross Boyce, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Department of Epidemiology, has been selected as one of the recipients of the Jefferson-Pilot Fellowships in Academic Medicine. This award is given to exceptional UNC School of Medicine junior faculty.
 
Due Oct. 31: Assistance Available for Clinical Research Achievement Awards

The Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Awards honor outstanding achievements in clinical research published in a peer-reviewed journal and performed at a U.S. institution. To nominate a study published in 2022, NC TraCS will help you develop the nomination package. Nominate studies by Oct. 31 for NC TraCS assistance.

Reminder: Open Enrollment Ends Tomorrow
Enrollment for benefits-eligible University employees ends at 11:59 p.m. tomorrow evening, Friday, Oct. 28. Benefits-eligible employees include permanent full- and part-time SHRA, EHRA, non-faculty and faculty working a minimum of 20 hours per week.

It’s time to vote on your favorite of the five finalists for the 2022 UNC Health and School of Medicine pumpkin decorating contest. The deadline is Friday, Oct. 28, at noon.
 
Reminder: Game Day, Halloween Parking
The UNC Tar Heels will take on Pittsburgh at Kenan Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. Plan ahead for heavy traffic on game day. Additionally, please plan ahead for sections of Franklin and Columbia streets to be closed from 8 – 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.

UNC School of Medicine’s 55th annual Student Research Day will take place on Friday, Nov. 11. The John B. Graham Research Society is seeking faculty judges to help make the day a success by providing formative feedback to student presenters.
