Direct link to Midas event reporting coming soon in Epic

This new Midas link is for patient occurrences only.

All associate safety events should continue to be reported in WorkSafe.
We heard your feedback in our 2021 AHRQ Culture of Safety Survey, and we’re pleased to share that reporting a patient safety event will soon be easier than ever! Beginning Feb. 2, a new link will be available in Epic that will connect directly to Midas, our patient safety event reporting and learning tool. Reporting safety events and near misses is a key part of our journey to achieving zero preventable harm.

This link is simply a convenient shortcut to our existing Midas system – nothing else has changed, and you can continue using the desktop icon if you prefer, or if you don’t have Epic access.

Click here for a tip sheet to help guide you in using this new link, and keep reading for a few things to know about Midas, this new link, and event reporting:

Is the Midas desktop icon going away?
No, nothing is changing with Midas! We are just adding an additional access point to the same tool directly in Epic to provide additional convenience for Epic users.

Where will I find the Midas link in Epic?

A link to Midas will be available in the Epic More dropdown menu (click the screenshot at right to enlarge).

Will I have to log in to Midas to report an event if I’m using the Midas link in Epic?
No – that’s one of the ways this link makes event reporting even easier! If you are already logged in to Epic, you will not need to log in a second time to report an event.

Will patient safety event reports I enter via the Midas link in Epic appear in the patient’s record?
No. They will be recorded in our Midas tool in the same way they always have been, and nothing will appear in the patient’s record.

Can I use this link to report an associate or provider safety event?
No. All associate and provider safety events and near misses should continue to be reported in WorkSafe, our online reporting and learning system designed to capture associate and provider occurrences. WorkSafe can be accessed via the WorkSafe icon on every desktop.

What’s the difference between Midas and WorkSafe?
Midas should be used to report all safety events and near misses involving a patient. WorkSafe should be used to report all safety events and near misses involving an associate or provider. If an event involves risk or harm to both a patient and associate or provider, a report should be entered in both Midas and WorkSafe. Both tools are critical to improving our ability to analyze and respond to health and safety concerns across our connected ecosystem as we continue on our journey toward zero preventable harm!

Inspire Wellbeing preventive care requirement waived

Inspire Wellbeing is our associate wellbeing program that’s designed to offer the vital support you need to amplify all the things that inspire your wholeness. In this program, associates and their covered spouses complete wellbeing activities to earn points toward health insurance premium reductions, or a cash reward for associates not on a Centura medical plan.

We know the ongoing pandemic has put an additional strain on many of our caregivers and your families. In an effort to alleviate some of the demands on you, the preventive care requirement has been waived for any associate on a Centura medical plan as well as their covered spouse. This waiver applies to the current earnings period, with a deadline of March 31, 2022. If you and your covered spouse, as applicable, are on a Centura medical plan and do not complete a preventative care visit for this earnings period (April 2021 – March 2022), you will automatically receive the 250 Preventative Care Visit points.*

It only takes a few simple steps to earn your points, but the March 31 deadline will be here before you know it! Keep in mind that some components, like completing a tobacco cessation program, may take several weeks to complete, so don’t delay. Register or log in today to earn points toward your incentive and make sure you don’t miss out on these valuable rewards.

Associates on a Centura Health medical plan: Start earning in just a few easy steps!

Log in to Inspire Wellbeing.
Take five minutes to complete your wellbeing survey to earn 100 points.
Complete your tobacco status attestation to earn 400 points.
Complete other fun wellbeing activities to earn 250 program points.
The preventive care visit requirement has been waived for this program year. If you and your covered spouse, as applicable, are on a Centura medical plan, you will automatically be credited with 250 points whether or not you have been able to complete your preventive care visit.

Together, these activities equal your full $1,000 incentive! Your covered spouse can also earn 1,000 points, for a total of up to $2,000 in health premium reductions. Click here for a program checklist with more details about how to access programs and earn your full reward.

Not on a Centura Health medical plan? You can still earn rewards by completing wellbeing activities through Inspire Wellbeing! Earn at least 250 points by March 31 to earn $250. Your cash reward will be paid to you in the first quarter of the new plan year (July – September 2022).

*The 250 points only apply for the Preventative Care visit. These points will be applied after the program year ends on March 31, 2022. Complete the other steps listed above to receive the full incentive.

EAP’s Myths and Reality series

Our Profile Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers confidential counseling, work-life services, legal or financial assistance to you and your family members. We don’t want misinformation to keep you from using this valuable resource.

Over the coming weeks, we will share our Myths and Reality series to address the most common concerns we hear from you – our incredible caregivers – on topics including accessibility, availability, confidentiality, provider and counselor expertise, location, and cost.

This week we focus on location!

Myth: The counselors are all located in Colorado Springs, they have no one in my area.

Reality: Profile EAP has over 400 licensed counselors throughout Colorado and Kansas who are located around areas where we have hospitals or services. We also contract with a large national company, Better Help Counseling, to offer another layer of support that extends to all 50 states throughout the U.S. for family members of our Centura caregivers.

Myth: I do not want to see a local counselor because everyone locally will know my business.

Reality: Through EAP you have many options to work with counselors who do not live in your local area. Please let our scheduling team know that you prefer someone who is not local, and they will be happy to help.

Myth: I have a son in college in Oregon – Profile EAP is only local, with counselors in Colorado and Kansas.

Reality: Through Profile EAP, you have access to telehealth counseling services via Zoom or phone, that can be accessed from various locations. You also have access to Better Help Counseling through your EAP services, which connects you to counselors across the U.S. who can service many different time zones and locations.

Join us next week for the conclusion of our series with a focus on cost.

For more information about your EAP benefits, please visit www.ProfileEAP.org and enter company code CENTURA, call 800.645.6571, or email ProfileEAP@Centura.org.

What is Zero Suicide?
We are committed to decreasing suicide deaths in our communities and have been awarded grant funding thorough the Colorado Department of Public Health and Education to participate in the Zero Suicide initiative.

Last year, we asked for your initial feedback to get a better understanding of our ability to address suicide-related issues and identify training and education opportunities that will enhance patient care and safety across our ministry. As part of our commitment to continuously improve the care we deliver to our patients, we are hoping to gather your important feedback once again through this year’s survey.

Thank you in advance for completing the survey and helping us continuously improve the care we provide to our patients.

St. Anthony North nurse: "Thank God we got out when we did"

On Thursday, Dec. 30, “We were home, still off for the holidays,” says Shelley Shields. It was nice day, though very windy, and Shelley had no idea what was about to happen to her neighborhood and others across the Louisville and Superior communities.

Shelley is a forensic nurse examiner and works on call at St. Anthony North and other Centura hospitals, where she cares for assault victims. As someone who helps those experiencing trauma, she didn’t imagine she and her family would soon be offered help for a traumatic experience they never imagined.

“A little before noon, my husband came and got me. He said, I need your help, something’s going on outside and there’s a lot of smoke,” she said. “Eventually we realized we needed to go.”

A resident of the Coal Creek subdivision in Louisville, the family lived miles away from where the fire first started, and they didn’t think their home was in immediate danger at first. Still, they evacuated to the home of Shelley’s mother-in-law for the night.

“I was optimistic all night it would be okay, because who would think it would get that far?” Then, a neighbor confirmed that sure enough, their house had burned down.

Before and After: Shelley Shields’ home in Louisville before the fire (top photo) and after.

Although learning their home was lost has been very difficult, Shelley is focused on the fact that she still has what’s most important – her family and pets.

“Thank God we got out when we did. More than what we lost, it was thank God we and the kids and the animals are safe. We had the opportunity to grab a few precious items including childhood photos.”

She also says the outpouring of support from Centura and her colleagues “has been absolutely amazing. I’ve heard from multiple different people, they brought over a care basket yesterday. It is touching more than they’ll ever know!”

Shelley has had the opportunity to give interviews about her experience in the days since the fire, including with CBS 4 just before President Biden visited the area on Friday.

There is also a lot of work to begin the long recovery process, and the family will continue staying with Shelley’s mother-in-law for the time being.

“We’re very, very, very lucky. We have a house to stay in, we don’t have to worry about food or a place to stay,” she said. ”Our house is a house, but it’s stuff. It can be replaced.”
