October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! We all have a part in cybersecurity to stay safe and secure online while increasing resilience against cyber threats. Each week in October we will share information about the role each of us has in online safety and encourage proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity at home and in the workplace. See below for an outline of the topics we will cover during Cybersecurity Awareness Month:
Thank you for your engagement and participation in Cyber Security Awareness Month and beyond!
Do Your Part. Be Cyber Smart.
If you connect, you must protect. Whether it’s your computer, smartphone, game device, or other network the best defense against viruses and malware is to update to the latest security software, web browser, and operating systems. Don’t delay!
A recent malicious software attack on Apple devices highlights the importance of ensuring your devices receive frequent updates. Read this Sept. 15 communication from the Centura Information Security Office for more information about this recent attack and for helpful links to Apple device updates. Centura associates with Android devices should visit their device manufacturer's and wireless carrier's websites to learn about device and model specific security updates. These updates, too, should be applied as soon as possible.
Sign up today for automatic updates to protect your devices with anti-virus software.

To support Centura’s commitment to deliver high-performing whole person care, Information Technology (IT) is launching a new streamlined process for submitting Epic optimization requests that incorporates the core priorities of physician enablement and system alignment.
The new Epic Intake Process (also commonly referred to as the Sand, Pebble, Rock (SPR) Intake process) will assist the business and IT teams by:
Providing requestors with a centralized tool to submit new Epic optimization requests.
Promoting a consistent process.
Ensuring prioritization of work to focus on the work that is most urgent or impactful.
Standardizing and automating the intake process.
Supporting transparency of where a request is in process.
Improving communication and collaboration across teams and requestors.
Allowing the Centura Health enterprise to see the complete book of business for Epic optimization requests to ensure work is getting completed in a timely manner.
Effective Oct. 6, 2021, all requests for new Epic functionality must be entered from the New Epic Optimization Request form. The New Epic Optimization form can also be accessed from MyVirtualWorkplace and WorkspaceOne. A step-by-step instruction guide detailing how to submit a new Epic optimization request can be found HERE.
Please note that Epic “break/fix” issues should continue to be submitted as tickets via the Self Service Hub. The table below provides some examples of new Epic optimization requests v. break/fixes and when to use which system. When in doubt, the New Epic Optimization Request Form should be used. A good rule of thumb is whether what’s being requested already exists today. If the answer is yes, a Service Desk ticket can be entered. If the request is determined not to be a break/fix, the request will be rerouted though the new Epic optimization process.
Issue | New Epic Optimization Request Form | Self Service Hub |
New functionality or tools desired in Epic | NEW Epic SPR Optimization Request | |
Functionality/tool in Epic that used to work appropriately, but is now broken/missing | Epic Application Maintenance Request |
IT will continue to provide the service, support and technical enablement that our clinic and business partners have come to expect. Through collaboration, the New Epic Optimization Request process will not only ensure we’re working on the right things at the right time, but that our people feel like they’re working in the right place.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 each year. To honor Hispanic Heritage Month, please take a moment to learn more about our partnership with community leaders to positively impact the health and well-being of the Latino community.
At Centura Health, we know that health care is better where we are. Our Social Justice Framework guides our commitment to join together in community and deliver equitable, high-quality care. With over 21% of our patient population identifying as Hispanic, it’s important that we continue taking meaningful steps to understand and address the unique social, economic and cultural factors that impact health care delivery in the Latino community.
The single best way to positively impact the health of Latinos is to engage Promotoras in their care – a Spanish term for community health workers in Latinx communities. Centura Health partners with Vuela for Health, a nonprofit organization based in Denver, to impact health outcomes in the Latino community.
In February 2021, Centura Health hosted a special vaccination event to provide education and administer the COVID-19 vaccine to Promotoras in an effort to recognize the very important role of Promotoras and to raise awareness about the vaccines in Spanish-speaking communities. After receiving the vaccine, Promotoras from Vuela for Health were able to safely relay information about the vaccine to their communities, helping to dispel misinformation and provide education about the vaccine. After being vaccinated, Vuela for Health Promotoras went on to host 30 vaccination events at local churches with the support of Centura Health where 4,551 underserved Latinos were fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and charged with sharing the importance of vaccinations with their own families and neighbors.
This approach – partnering with physicians and nurses to educate Promotoras so they can in turn educate their community members in the ways that resonate best with them – is key to improving health outcomes in the Latino community.
“We complement our community partners well because doctors and nurses can provide us with the education and evidence-based curriculum. As Promotoras, we have more time to explain the “why” to people in the community and understand the cultural components to be able to reach them,” explained Diana Pineda, Founder and Executive Director at Vuela for Health. “We’re reaching people who are not currently part of the health care system and educating them on why and how to take action for their health.”
Their efforts are making a difference. Diana and Maria Kneusel, DNP, MSHCE, MSN Ed, RN, CMGT-BC, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist at Centura Health, were recently honored with the Hispanic Star Award for the work they have done together to support the Denver Latino community throughout the pandemic.
Diana and Maria will also be presenting on the impact of their collaboration at Centura’s 14th Annual Evidence-Based Practice, Research and Innovation Conference to be held on Nov. 5, 2021.
“This invaluable partnership between our Promotoras and Centura Health is vitally important to promote better health outcomes within our Spanish-speaking communities. We are truly bringing our Mission and Vision to life through this work,” shared Maria.
As we continue working to advance health outcomes and address disparities in the Latino community, Diana emphasizes the importance of health care organizations continuing to work collaboratively with community leaders like the Promotoras.
“We are trusted in the community because we are a part of the community. The collaboration between health care leaders, churches and leaders like Promotoras is how we can continue to impact the community,” Diana shared.
Together, we can fulfill our vision of every community, every neighborhood and every life – whole and healthy.
We are excited to share that our internal print services, provided through Centura Health Internal Print (CHIP), have begun transitioning to a new model which better aligns with our operational needs and core Value of Stewardship.
As part of this transition, as of Sept. 17 CHIP is no longer housed on the St. Anthony North Health Campus. Instead, our partnership with Xerox will continue at an off-site location.
Throughout the transition, we will continue to fulfill your document and printing needs and once the transition is complete will be able to do so more efficiently.
We are dedicated to ensuring a seamless transition. Please continue to submit print orders through the ordering process. Information will continue to be available for your reference on the CHIP SharePoint site.
Centura Health printing rates will adjust beginning Oct. 1, yielding an overall print cost reduction for Centura Health while maintaining stocks, templates and proofing processes. As this change is implemented, pricing will not be displayed in the ordering process but will be applied to cost center charges.
Please contact the CHIP staff with any questions, including advanced pricing. You can continue to reach CHIP representatives by email at printchip@centura.org or phone at 303-426-2158.
As we progress through this transition, we will keep you abreast of important dates, resources and next steps.
We look forward to partnering with you as we make this exciting transition and work to better enable you – our incredible caregivers – to focus on providing compassionate, whole person care.
