Associate and provider flu shots coming soon!

All associates and providers must submit proof of flu vaccination or an approved religious or medical exemption by Monday, Nov. 15. Receiving a flu shot or submitting an approved exemption is a condition of employment.
An annual influenza vaccine is the best defense against seasonal flu, keeping you healthy and making a meaningful impact in the lives of those around us. It is our responsibility to the people we serve to help protect the whole health of our communities by preventing the spread of illness – and getting immunized against the seasonal flu is extra important this year as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Make sure to get your flu shot by Nov. 15. Associate vaccination opportunities will begin soon across our system and will continue through the end of October. You can view the full schedule here.

The health and safety of our incredible people remains our top priority, and as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, flu vaccination options will again look a little different this year. Each Centura facility will be delivering associate vaccines in the way that makes the most sense for that location. Options may include:

Check the schedule or your entity newsletter to find out which option(s) will be available at your facility and to learn more about specific dates and times. When receiving your flu shot, please be sure to comply with all screening and social distancing guidelines at your facility to help prevent the spread of illness.

If you prefer, you may receive the vaccine from a health care provider or pharmacy of your choice and submit proof of vaccination to your occupational health representative (click here for locations where you can receive a vaccine that’s covered at 100% by our Centura Health Medical Plan).

Be sure your family members and dependents get vaccinated too!
The seasonal flu vaccine is most effective in preventing the spread of disease when the majority of people in our communities receive it. Influenza vaccinations are considered preventive under our Centura Health Medical Plan and are covered at 100%. Your covered family members and dependents can visit any of these locations nationwide to receive their vaccine at no out of pocket cost.

Many other health insurance plans also consider the vaccine preventive; contact your carrier for coverage details.

Exemptions
New and temporary medical exemptions must be submitted annually to Occupational Health. If you are requesting a medical exemption, you should schedule an appointment with a health care provider well in advance of the submission due date. To better manage medical exemptions, a detailed narrative from your provider is required in addition to the medical exemption form. This must be submitted by Nov. 15 in order to ensure timely review and approval. If your exemption was marked permanent by your provider last year, your provider does not need to re-sign the form – only an associate signature is required annually. New and temporary exemptions need both a provider and associate signature every year.

If you have a sincerely-held religious belief which conflicts with influenza vaccination, you may complete a formal request for religious accommodation. Religious exemptions must be submitted annually to Human Resources at peopleresourcecenter@centura.org. It is important to allow sufficient administrative review time; therefore, we encourage you to submit a request for religious exemption as soon as possible. Contact the People Resource Center at -888-622-1111 or by emailing peopleresourcecenter@centura.org for more information or assistance.

C-section ERAS® pathway launches Sept. 14

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) is a multi-disciplinary, evidence-based clinical care pathway aimed at minimizing complications and improving our patients’ surgical experience. To elevate the high standard of care we provide our C-section patients, the C-section ERAS® Workgroup in the Anesthesia & Surgery Clinical Value Transformation (CVT) Council has developed a Centura standardized pathway to help caregivers support patients who may benefit from ERAS® interventions.

The new standardized C-section ERAS® pathway provides continuity of care for our patients, standardization for our clinicians and documentation to support continuous improvement and reporting. This will help caregivers support patients by:

The C-section ERAS® Rollout Toolkit includes more information, as well as clinical and patient educational resources. Using the ERAS® pathway is one more way we can take a more mindful approach as we continue to provide high-quality whole person care.

Request IT support by phone, email, website or chat

To ensure quick resolution of time-sensitive issues, Information Technology (IT) has created multiple options for reporting issues or requesting services. While it may be tempting to go through “alternative” channels (e.g., sending emails to your go-to person, asking a clinical informaticist, reporting issues duringSafety Huddle, or failing to report issues) doing so may significantly delay resolution time.

Seventy-five percent of all calls to the Centura Service Center are resolved during the initial call. Only 25% of calls are escalated to Tier 2 support. By reaching out to the Service Center directly 7 out of 10 calls will be resolved within minutes.

We are here to help you! Current options for reporting issues, requesting IT assistance or support include:

Honest conversations about suicide

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.”

- Robin Williams (Died by suicide on August 11, 2014)

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Though suicide is an important issue to address year-round, Suicide Prevention Awareness Month provides an opportunity to have honest conversations about mental health and suicide. Everyone is affected by suicide, not just the victim. Suicide impacts family and friends long after the loss of a loved one.

This month, through a series of newsletter articles, we hope to spark a flicker of hope to everyone affected by suicide and to provide ways to help identify those at risk.

Crisis Resources:

  • If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call 911 immediately

  • If you are in crisis or experiencing difficult or suicidal thoughts, call Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-8255 or text “TALK” to 38255.

In the upcoming weeks, Centura associates who have expertise in suicide or who have personally been impacted by suicide are authoring newsletter articles. The goal is to provide information and inspiration. Centura has been awarded grant funding through CDPHE and has adopted Zero Suicide, which is a way to improve suicide care within health care systems. Under the Zero Suicide framework, Centura is participating in system-wide transformation toward safer suicide care.

With Suicide Prevention Awareness Month upon us, let’s all try to remember that friends, family, and members of our community may be silently struggling. In the words of Robin Williams, “Be kind. Always.”

If you would like to be involved in improving suicide care at Centura or would like more information about Zero Suicide, please contact ChristinaDolan@Centura.org.
