Release of more clinical notes to patients coming in July

As we continue to build toward meeting the requirements of the 21st Century Cures Act, we will be releasing additional note types to the patient portal beginning on Tuesday, July 13. By sharing more health care information with our patients, we are building stronger trust and creating opportunities for richer discussions to improve patient care.

Starting on July 13, patients will have expanded real-time access to now include the following clinical note types authored by all clinicians across all care settings:

It is important to understand there are some exceptions which will allow you to withhold releasing clinical notes to the patient portal on a case-by-case basis, and these exceptions will require your manual activation in Epic.

You can find additional information to navigate these exceptions along with other frequently asked questions in the Cures Act Training Guide with FAQs. Additional educational resources to help you prepare for these changes can be found on the Learning Home Dashboard (LHD) and at CuresAct.Centura.org.

As a reminder, back in March, patients were given access to the following provider clinical note types in the patient portal: Discharge Summaries, Emergency Department Provider Notes, Final Operative Notes, Labor and Delivery Notes and Outpatient Progress Notes.

While our patients have always had access to a significant amount of their electronic health information through the patient portal, as well as their full medical record upon request through the Health Information Management (HIM) department, patients will now have real-time access to more of their health information through the patient portal. This may affect your current workflow. Please review the resources above to ensure you are prepared for the changes going into effect July 13.
