“I felt it was a great opportunity to earn the credential for a leadership position while working in a clinical position,” Luke Angel, manager of rehabilitation at Mercy Regional Medical Center, shared. “I can complete coursework around my work and life schedule. If I am extremely busy one week, I can adjust my study schedule to accommodate, then just pick a weekend to get caught up.”

LAH's Rick Boyer receives statewide award

Centura Health is fueled by our incredible caregivers. Recently one of our incredible people, Littleton Adventist Hospital Director of Safety and Security Rick Boyer, was surprised with a statewide honor. Rick is the recipient of the 2020 Public/Private Partnership Award from the Colorado Emergency Management Association (CEMA).

The award was established to recognize the collaborative local efforts between a public authority and a private sector entity. The award is one of four presented by CEMA each year through a competitive nomination process across the state. Rick was nominated by the Arapahoe Office of Emergency Management and the Tri-County Health Department. He continues to collaborate with these and other public agencies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rick said he was a bit overwhelmed when Nathan Fogg, Arapahoe County’s Emergency Management Director, presented him with the trophy.

“I feel honored to receive this award, but I also feel a renewed motivation to not only maintain, but strengthen these relationships with our local emergency management partners,” Rick said.

“As Emergency Managers profess often, disasters (even global public health crises) ultimately end up being responded to, and managed at, a very local level, and I feel we are blessed to have such great partners, like Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department and Tri County Health Department, who are constantly and consistently ‘at the ready’ to assist the communities that we serve.”

Rick helps support Safety, Security, and Emergency Management at Porter, Littleton, Parker, and Castle Rock Adventist Hospitals but is based at, and primarily serves Littleton, where he has worked the past 14 years.

Please join us in recognizing Rick for this outstanding recognition!

Clinical Service Desk rollout begins April 27

On Tuesday, April 27, Information Technology (IT) is expanding its support and service capabilities for all Epic and Dragon users by launching a dedicated Clinical Service Desk (CSD). The CSD will be available 24/7 to provide basic troubleshooting or answer questions such as “how to,” “where to find” or “how do I complete this task.”

Having access to a support technician who can quickly resolve a wide-variety of Epic and Dragon topics is critical to efficient patient care. A CSD technician is a phone call away, and can assist with education, simple troubleshooting, or escalation to other technical support teams if needed.

Following are examples of how the CSD can be used:

Beginning Tuesday, April 27, call the Service Center at 303.643.4200 and select the “Epic Support” option. You may also direct dial: For questions or feedback regarding the CSD, please contact Chris Watton, Project Manager.

Upcoming installation of Horizon Client App

On Thursday, April 29, at 11:30 p.m. (2300 MT), Information Technology (IT) will push the Horizon Client app to all Centura Health computers, with the exception of Information Technology (IT), Longmont United Hospital, Porter Adventist Hospital and St. Anthony Hospital, who previously received the application.

As part of both the Horizon replacement of Citrix and the Workspace ONE implementations, your computer will require the Horizon Client App to properly connect to virtual resources. The Horizon app is the VMware version of the Citrix Receiver. The Citrix Receiver will not be removed during this process and you may continue to work as you normally would.

Beginning at 11:30 p.m. (2300 MT) Thursday, April 29, the Horizon Client app will be deployed to your computer. If you are connected to the Centura Health network, the installation will begin right away. If you are remote, the next time your computer is connected to the Centura Health network, the installation will begin.

Note: You are not expected to be connected to the Centura network at the time of the deployment and you do not need to take steps to accommodate.

A soft restart will be required after installation. A prompt will display to restart your computer, along with the options to restart now or snooze and remind me again in 1 hour (you have the option to select up to 4 hours as needed).

The application will be pushed to all Centura-owned, Windows-based laptops and desktop computers.

Questions?
If you have any questions regarding this, please call the Service Center at 303.643.4200 and reference Change Number C45097

Important! NEW Microsoft SharePoint and Teams sites expiration policy

Don’t get caught off guard! Prepare for our new SharePoint and Microsoft Teams expiration policy that will be implemented this month.

Why is this being done?
Currently Centura does not have an expiration policy for Microsoft Online SharePoint Sites or Microsoft Teams Sites.* As a result, many document repositories exist that are no longer being used, taking up storage and adding risk of sensitive information being unnecessarily discoverable.

Information Technology (IT) has partnered with Corporate Responsibility to identify an expiration policy for Microsoft SharePoint Online and Teams sites that will go into effect on April 30, 2021.

*If you are not familiar with Microsoft Teams, it is a communication and collaboration tool with document storage and sharing capabilities, provided by SharePoint. It will also replace Skype for Business instant messaging. It was piloted in IT and will be rolled out to the rest of the organization throughout April. For more information, review the MS Teams End User Guide.

What is in the new expiration policy?
After April 30, 2021, all SharePoint Sites and Microsoft Teams sites will need to be “renewed” on an annual basis. The “clock” for annual renewal will “start” on April 30, so the first potential expiration date would be April 29, 2022.
There are two mechanisms for annual renewal:

  1. Manual renewal
    • At 30 days, 14 days and 7 days before expiration, ALL site owners will receive an email notification alerting them of the pending expiration. The email contains a link to manually extend the group lifetime by 1 year.
    • On the expiration date, site owners will receive a final email alerting them that the group has expired but is still recoverable for 30 days. The email contains a link to manually extend the site lifetime by 1 year.
  2. Automatic renewal based on activity
    • During the 35 days prior to expiration, any activity on the site’s contents (mailbox, documents, or the site itself) will trigger an automatic renewal of the site. This will push out the expiration date of the group to 1 year from this activity date.
Any Microsoft Teams or SharePoint Online site that is not renewed via either the manual or automatic activity-based process will be permanently deleted 30 days after its expiration date. As noted above, the first potential expiration date for all existing sites will be April 29, 2022.

How do I avoid a site being deleted when it is still needed?
IT and Corporate Responsibility have put many fail safes in place to avoid deletion of sites that are being actively used. This includes identifying at least two owners of every Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Site to receive the renewal notifications, identifying owners for any “orphaned” sites, using automatic activity-based renewals, and providing a final opportunity for owners to renew sites for 30 days after their expiration date.

That said, every associate needs to take personal responsibility to come into compliance with this policy. This includes:Who do I contact if I have concerns or questions about this policy?
If you have questions about this policy, please contact Julia Rosen in IT or Laura Parrado in Corporate Responsibility.
