Growing up in an unincorporated town outside of Seattle, Dr. Sharry Veres had an early appreciation for the care and service provided by the small family medicine clinic in town. From getting sick with pneumonia as a child to dealing with injuries after being attacked by a dog on her local paper route, she and her family never had to worry about where to go for care.
“Receiving that care when I needed it most left an impression on me. I chose to go into family medicine because they were my heroes,” she explained.
Today, Dr. Veres is shaping the next generation of family medicine heroes as the director of the St. Anthony North Family Medicine Residency program. She is respected and admired by her residents, fellow leaders and family medicine peers and was recently named the Family Physician of the Year by the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians, an organization that represents over 2,700 practicing and retired family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students.
Dr. Veres joined Centura Health in 2012 and has helped transform the program throughout her tenure. In her eight years as director, the program improved patient satisfaction from the first percentile to above average. She’s worked to turn around the finances and create operational efficiencies. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the St. Anthony North Family Medicine Residency team quickly adapted and logged the highest uptake of virtual care across the system.
Dr. Veres demonstrates her passion and skill for problem-solving in the new fellowships she’s created within the residency program. When she learned that residents wanted a program where they could build additional skills, they added fellowship programs to better address these needs. The program now offers an emergency medical fellowship to help prepare family medicine graduates with the skills necessary to provide rural emergency medicine care. With an increased demand for holistic treatments in the surrounding community, St. Anthony North added an integrated medicine fellowship. The program also offers fellowships in maternal-child health, population health and sports medicine, helping equip future family medicine physicians with added skills and expertise to be successful in the future.
With a hunger for lifelong learning, Dr. Veres is always looking for ways to work as a team and improve the health of our communities.
“In health care, the most important asset we have are people. We have an opportunity to teach them to solve both easy and hard problems, to recognize interpersonal teamwork and be a part of the solution, to think about how to solve problems in new ways,” Dr. Veres shared. “I love what I do because it puts me in such a position to creatively work with a team of people to make things better for the future.”
Dr. Veres accepted the Physician of the Year Award at the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians Virtual Annual Summit on April 17. The Physician of the Year Award has been presented since 1981 and it is an important marker of peer respect and recognition.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Veres on this incredible accomplishment!

“I felt it was a great opportunity to earn the credential for a leadership position while working in a clinical position,” Luke Angel, manager of rehabilitation at Mercy Regional Medical Center, shared. “I can complete coursework around my work and life schedule. If I am extremely busy one week, I can adjust my study schedule to accommodate, then just pick a weekend to get caught up.” | ||
Centura Health is proud to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to our flourishing communities, and we are excited to announce the launch of a convenient online tool to schedule vaccine appointments at the community clinics and drive-up vaccination events across our connected ecosystem.
Individuals ages 16 and older in Colorado and Western Kansas can easily schedule an appointment by clicking here. The online scheduling option is open to the public, and individuals are not required to have a Centura Health patient portal account. This online scheduling tool allows individuals to select from a list of vaccine clinic and event locations and choose a date and time that works best for them!
Dates and times of vaccination appointments will vary at each Centura Health community vaccination clinic. Appointments may fill quickly, so we encourage individuals to continue checking the website for new openings. In addition, new days and times are added as vaccine supply is confirmed.
After scheduling an appointment, individuals will receive an email confirmation with additional instructions.
Based on the vaccine allocation we receive each week, appointments will be made available through our online scheduling options. At this time, there is not enough of the COVID-19 vaccine to offer it to everyone. As Centura Health receives shipments of the vaccine, we are providing it as quickly as possible according to state distribution guidelines.

Centura Health recognizes that improving medication safety is one of the most challenging aspects of health care. It involves ensuring accurate information about our patients’ home medications, including clinic visits, emergency room visits, admissions and discharges.
As a caregivers, you are essential to the medication reconciliation process. To best equip our clinicians with updated information on workflows and Epic build, Information Technology (IT) is launching Med Rec May. This annual campaign will include required refresher training developed based on feedback from key clinical stakeholders across all areas of the care continuum.
On May 3, clinical associates will be assigned refreshed medication reconciliation training in LEARN. As you complete training, please take note of these important topics:
Information Technology (IT) will launch the Workspace One (WS1) portal across our connected ecosystem in June. WS1 will be the new location for most web links and web-based applications currently on MyVirtualWorkplace (MVW).
MVW is not going away and will remain your portal and homepage for news and information updates. Staring in May there will be a link to WS1 on MVW. Some web links and applications will continue to remain on MVW until they can be moved to WS1, including LEARN. Watch for more information about other web links and applications impacted by this change.
WS1 will provide an improved and simplified user experience when accessing the web applications and links you use as part of your work. It provides the ability to save your favorites for quick access. You can also access WS1 from your mobile device with a very similar experience.
Centura is always looking for ways to improve access to important tools and resources to help you deliver whole person care. We look forward to sharing this new user-friendly platform with you.
