Dear Agent,

TWIA is ready to serve policyholders and agents affected by Hurricane Delta.

Please share the following information with your TWIA policyholders affected by the storm to help ensure they can recover as quickly as possible:

Before reporting a claim:
  • Review your TWIA insurance coverage; know what is covered and what isn’t
    • Know your coverage limits and understand your deductible, especially if reporting a claim for the first time
    • Remember: TWIA does not cover storm surge/flood damage
  • Assess property damage and take pictures or video of the damage
  • Have your TWIA policy number, best contact information, and property damage details ready
Report your claim in one of three ways:
  • Visit www.twia.org/2020storms for fastest service. You will need to register if using Claims Center for the first time.
  • Call TWIA’s 24-hour claims care center at (800) 788-8247
  • Contact your homeowner’s insurance agent
After reporting a claim:
  • Focus on protecting yourself, your loved ones, and your property
    • Make temporary or minor repairs to prevent further property damage
    • Take pictures of the damage before and after making temporary repairs
    • Keep receipts and records of payment for any temporary repairs
    • Do not begin making permanent repairs until TWIA and you have communicated about your damage
  • Maintain contact with TWIA about your claim; this ensures it is resolved quickly
    • Respond promptly to Claims Center messages, phone calls and/or emails, and requests for information about your claim
  • Schedule repairs and consider holding back a portion of the repair payment to the contractor until the entire project is completed to your satisfaction
  • Be wary of out-of-state contractors who show up at your door unexpectedly. Learn ways to protect yourself from fraud at the Texas Department of Insurance website.
  • Check with your contractor for necessary building permits and windstorm Certificates of Compliance (WPI-8/WPI-8-E)
Please do not attempt to file claims by fax, email, or US mail as this may cause unnecessary delays.

If your agency is closed, we invite you to put TWIA’s website for policyholders (www.twia.org/2020storms), 24-hour Claims Center phone number ((800) 788-8247), and claim filing information on your out-of-office messages to help your clients file TWIA claims as quickly as possible.

Visit our website or follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on this storm and TWIA’s response to it.

Sincerely,
Texas Windstorm Insurance Association
