Dear colleagues:

The Rising Stars program was launched earlier this year by the UCI School of Medicine, in partnership with UCI Health, as part of an effort to recognize junior faculty for their contributions to research and clinical advances, and their commitment to exemplary community service.  In October, our first call for nominations concluded with a total of 15 incredible nominations submitted.  Following a very difficult selection process, we are delighted to announce the first four recipients of our new Rising Stars award:

Connie Rhee, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine
and Public Health, Division of
Nephrology, Hypertension and
Kidney Transplantation

Nathan Rojek, MD
Assistant Professor of Dermatology

Sanjay Sinha, MD
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

Faysal Yafi, MD
Assistant Professor of Urology
Medical Director, Men's Health Program

To celebrate their accomplishments, Chad Lefteris and I are extending to each of them an invitation to attend one of the quarterly Rising Stars luncheons to be held beginning January 9.  During lunch, each Rising Star will be recognized for their contributions and given an opportunity to present their accomplishments to leadership from UCI Health and UCI School of Medicine.

A big congratulations to all of the Rising Star nominees.  Each of you truly embodies the spirit of our organization.

Also, stay tuned as we will be continuing the Rising Star program with our second round of nominations due in the Spring.  More information will be forthcoming.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Stamos, MD
