Background:
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine will send out certain specialty tests that were previously offered in-house: multiple sclerosis panel, oligoclonal bands, and CSF protein electrophoresis, effective immediately. These send out tests are available with similar turnaround time.
The recommended send out test for multiple sclerosis is the Oligoclonal Band Profile which includes CSF IgG index and oligoclonal band detection. Oligoclonal bands, when performed by isoelectric focusing, are present in approximately 95% of patients with multiple sclerosis. The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is working to validate and provide this service in-house in the near future.
