NHS 31st Annual NeighborWorks Day

On June 2, Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago employees participated in Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Chicago’s annual NeighborWorks Day. Volunteers cleaned vacant lots and community gardens in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

 

 

National Homeownership Month Roundtable

In June, the FHLBank Chicago’s Chief Financial Officer, Roger Lundstrom, gave an overview of the Federal Home Loan Bank System’s contribution to homeownership at the “National Homeownership Month 2018: Find Your Place” roundtable. Hosted by the Chicago Housing Authority, this event also included the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, and H.O.M.E. DuPage, Inc.

 

 

Reinvest Wisconsin Summit

Community Investment staff attended the National Community Reinvestment Coalition’s Reinvest Wisconsin Summit in Milwaukee on June 11. This event gathered community-based organizations, financial institutions, and public officials to discuss ways to increase economic opportunity across the state. Mary Patoka (pictured below), a member of the FHLBank Chicago’s Community Investment Advisory Council, spoke on a panel titled “Building Minority-Owned Small Businesses.”

 

 

United Community Center Visit

On June 22, Community Investment staff visited the United Community Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to see how competitive Affordable Housing Program funds are being utilized to promote homeownership in the community. The United Community Center's Walker Square Initiative is a neighborhood development strategy to assist families in purchasing a home or staying in their home on Milwaukee’s near south side.
