Angela Fleischman, MD, PhD

Associate Professor, Division of Hematology/Oncology
UC Irvine

Co-Leader, Systems Pathways & Targets Research Program
UC Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center

Mutant blood stem cells can gain a competitive advantage over healthy stem cells, yet the evolutionary forces driving this process remain incompletely understood. Dr. Fleischman will present research into how inflammation and other selective pressures shape clonal hematopoiesis and disease progression — and the implications for early intervention in blood cancers. A physician-scientist studying myeloproliferative neoplasms, Dr. Fleischman’s research spans clonal hematopoiesis, stem cell fitness, and inflammation to examine how mutant blood cells evolve to outcompete their normal counterparts.
