Storm Door Amendatory Endorsements Now in Effect

Storm door Amendatory Endorsements TWIA-800 and TWIA-801 are now in effect. The endorsements exclude coverage for storm doors, unless specifically listed on the policy, allowing the policyholder to be eligible for coverage or keep a policy in force. The endorsements will automatically be added to all policies at application or renewal according to the table below. There is no premium associated with the endorsements.

Summary

In our discussions with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Windstorm Inspection Division, we learned there are certain types of storms door on the market that cannot be certified to meet the TDI windstorm building code requirements. Under TDI regulations, installation of a storm door that cannot be certified through TDI’s Windstorm Inspection Program (WPI-8) could disqualify a property from meeting set eligibility criteria required to obtain insurance from TWIA.

TWIA developed Amendatory Endorsements TWIA-800 and TWIA-801 to help address the potential storm door barrier for policyholders, while TDI writes new rules (see TDI’s informal proposal here) to add storm doors to the No Inspection Required List.
