TWIA Legislative Update
Greetings:

The TWIA Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, February 2 at 9:30 a.m. CT to consider a recommendation from the Association’s Actuarial & Underwriting Committee for a vendor to provide catastrophe modeling services. The agenda for the meeting can be found here. TWIA invites members of the public to submit written public comments before the meeting or provide verbal public comment during the meeting.

TWIA issued an RFP on December 16, 2021, for a consultant or firm to perform catastrophe modeling analysis related to the Board’s statutorily required determination of the Association’s 1-in-100-year probable maximum loss for the 2022 hurricane season and reinsurance purchase decision. The Committee met on January 19 and voted to recommend Aon to provide these services. The Board may also consider the option for TWIA staff to execute catastrophe modeling.

The Board will NOT consider any changes to TWIA rates at this meeting.

All meetings of the TWIA Board of Directors and its committees are open to the public. The public may attend the meeting at TWIA’s office in Austin or via Zoom. Board members and staff may participate in the meeting in person or virtually. The meeting will also be livestreamed on YouTube.

Providing Public Comment to the Board
Members of the public can submit written comments via email at PublicComment@TWIA.org. Interested parties are encouraged to submit comments by noon on Monday, January 31, to enable the Board to receive and review them before the February 2 meeting. TWIA staff will provide the Board with all written comments regardless of when the Association receives them.

Written comments submitted to TWIA are subject to the Texas Public Information Act. TWIA may post public comments received, with personally identifiable information redacted, to its website.

Members of the public can provide verbal comments to the Board during the designated public comment portion of the meeting. If you want to make public comment during the meeting, you must attend the meeting at TWIA’s office or register and log into the meeting via Zoom on a computer, tablet, smartphone, or telephone.

    • After registering for the meeting, you will receive a confirmation email with details on how to join the meeting from your preferred device.
  • The meeting will also be livestreamed via YouTube.
Anyone attending the meeting at TWIA’s office is encouraged to wear a mask and comply with social distancing protocols. A limited number of TWIA staff will be on-site at TWIA’s office in Austin to facilitate the public comment process.
