Houston Health a finalist in the 2021 Green Cross for Safety Awards

The City of Houston Health Department was honored with a runner-up award in the 2021 National Safety Council Green Cross for Safety Awards. Out of some 31 semi-finalists, HHD was among three finalists in the category of Advocacy. Also, the NSC recognized HHD Division Manager Tia Johnson with its Rising Stars of Safety Award for her outstanding work with COVID-19 Testing.

Our new ZIP website includes safety material ranging from ZIP tips to Safety Bulletin links to newsletters, a photo gallery, ZIP resources and FAQs.
 
SAFE 2 SAVE competition results are in: HPW takes first overall
The City of Houston’s participation in the inaugural SAFE 2 SAVE Competition got employees revved up. Across all departments, COH employees racked up more than 311,000 points in the contest scoring system — which adds up to more than 2,500 hours of undistracted driving. That’s a lot of safe, undistracted driving. But of all the departments, Houston Public Works employees scored the highest. There’s more to the story.

A musical lesson in cleanliness

Cleanliness has always been important. But as this grew in importance and our social awareness during COVID, memorable and musical techniques have taken root in teaching healthy and safe behaviors. The daughter of HR Safety’s Lisa Stricklan and her husband, William Stricklan of the Houston Permitting Center, learned her lesson well. And who knows, maybe other COH employees will join the hand-washing chorus.
