Greetings:
Last night, the National Hurricane Center designated Tropical Storm Francine as a hurricane. The storm is currently within the boundaries of 80 degrees west longitude and 20 degrees north latitude, triggering the requirement that the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association place a moratorium on accepting new or increased coverage applications.
Current forecasts indicate that Francine is likely to make landfall on the Louisiana coast, with potential impacts in the eastern counties of TWIA’s coverage area. TWIA’s Plan of Operation requires that the moratorium remain in effect for all coastal counties in TWIA’s designated catastrophe area until the Association’s General Manager determines that the storm no longer threatens property within TWIA’s coverage area.
Texas FAIR Plan Association (TFPA) has also implemented a policy moratorium in the following counties: Aransas, Brazoria, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Hardin, Harris, Jasper, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Liberty, Matagorda, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Refugio, San Patricio, and Willacy.
Information for policyholders on filing claims is available at www.TWIA.org/recovery and www.TexasFairPlan.org/ClaimsCenter. Your constituents or their insurance agents with questions or concerns may contact Policy Services at agentservices@twia.org.or (800) 788-8247. Our normal business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
