Greetings:
This morning, Hurricane Beryl crossed the boundaries of 80 degrees west longitude and 20 degrees north latitude, triggering the requirement that TWIA place a moratorium on accepting new or increased coverage applications.
Current forecasts indicate that Beryl may make landfall in northeastern Mexico or on the Texas coast. Regardless of the landfall location, we expect the storm will impact a significant portion of TWIA’s coverage area. TWIA’s Plan of Operation requires that the moratorium remain in effect until the TWIA General Manager determines that the storm no longer threatens property within the designated catastrophe area of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association.
We have also activated the Association’s Catastrophe Incident Response (CAT) Plan. Activating the CAT Plan allows TWIA to begin scaling up claim resources, so we can quickly respond to policyholders with losses from the storm.
Texas FAIR Plan Association (TFPA) has also implemented a statewide policy moratorium.
