The Houston Health Department is all about public health. That doesn’t always involve intractable diseases or global pandemics. A vital part of the foundation of public health is being safe. Indeed, safety is crucial to avoiding injury and health issues. HHD doesn’t just talk the talk; they walk the walk. The department has gone all in on the City of Houston’s ZIP Safety Program. Zero is Possible is a standards-based safety program with the primary goal of driving the City’s occupational safety awareness and mindset toward zero accidents, zero injuries and zero safety compromises. Our new ZIP website includes safety material ranging from ZIP tips to Safety Bulletin links to newsletters, a photo gallery, ZIP resources and FAQs.
 

African Americans have made significant impacts in all areas of our society — from medicine to music, science to sports, and everything in between. That includes safety. We pause this month to salute great Black Americans who have made significant contributions to safety.
