The UCI School of Medicine is pleased to announce the next installment of the Portraits in Innovation and Resilience series hosted by the Women in Academic Medicine & Science group.

Portraits in Innovation and Resilience
December 6, 2021, Monday
5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Intended to be inclusive for faculty, staff, researchers, and students, Women in Academic Medicine & Science intends to foster professional development, support and inspire women in achieving academic success, and create a space to connect with and advocate for women.

Our keynote speaker, Hoda Anton-Culver, PhD, distinguished professor in the Department of Medicine at UCI School of Medicine, Founding Chair of the Department of Epidemiology, and Founding Director of the Genetic Epidemiology Research Institute, will share her experiences as a female researcher and discuss the gender differences noted in the NIH All of Us Research Program.

Recently, Dr. Anton-Culver has been involved as one of a multiple primary investigator led study for the California Precision Medicine Consortium funded by the NIH through the All of Us Research Program. The population-based studies she conducted include cancer epidemiology, cancer control and prevention and large cohort studies such as the California Teachers Study, the Women’s Health Initiative, the Athena mammography study, and the Wisdom breast health study.

Following the presentation, we will host a panel discussion with powerful women leaders from the UCI School of Medicine regarding their philosophy on grit and resilience in the pursuit of successful careers and achieving work-life integration.

Panel Discussion Speakers:
  • Cynthia Haq, MD, chair in the Department of Family Medicine
  • Suzanne B. Sandmeyer, PhD, professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry
  • Coleen K. Cunningham, MD, chair in the Department of Pediatrics at UCI School of Medicine, pediatrician-in-chief at Children’s Hospital of Orange County
