Background:
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine will switch sending out the below- mentioned viral molecular tests from our current reference laboratory, Associated Regional and University Pathologists (ARUP) to Eurofins Viracor. The rationale behind the switch is to improve the results turnaround time (TAT) to meet the needs of our Stem Cell Transplant Program. The tests affected by this change include Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Quantitative Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT PCR), HHV-6 Quantitative RT PCR, Varicella Zoster Virus Quantitative RT PCR, Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2 Quantitative RT PCR, and Adenovirus Qualitative and Quantitative RT PCR.
Important considerations:
- Please note that quantitative viral load values may vary between instruments. Therefore, if any of the tests above have been used to monitor the patient’s disease, it is recommended to re-establish baseline levels for these assays.
- UCI will offer no charge re-baseline for a period of 60 days. If indicated, during this 60- day period, physicians must order the re-baseline as below:
- If re-baseline is ordered, both tests will be reported.
- Viracor results will be found in Epic under the Media tab.
Effective date: Jan. 26, 2021
Turnaround time (TAT):
STAT: Not available
Routine: 2 days
