We are pleased to announce that Albert La Spada, MD, PhD, Distinguished Professor in the School of Medicine and director of the UCI Institute for Neurotherapeutics, has been named the new associate dean of research development, effective February 1, 2021.

La Spada is a specialist in neurology, clinical genetics, clinical molecular genetics and clinical pathology, and will be supporting Geoff Abbott, PhD, vice dean of basic science research.

With this new role, he will also be partnering with executive leadership and staff in establishing new research development programs, and directing the research development team in planning, developing, and executing research strategies and initiatives.

He then became the founding director of the Duke Center for Neurodegeneration and Neurotherapeutics, holding the Lincoln Endowed Chair for Neurobiology, prior to joining the UCI faculty on June 1, 2020

La Spada received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed a residency in anatomic & clinical pathology at the University of Washington, where he  also completed fellowships in both clinical genetics and neurogenetics.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. La Spada on this new role.
