It’s the holiday season, and what better gift to give than the gift of blood? At UCI Health we transfuse approximately 1000 units of blood each month and much of it is used for trauma victims, who sometimes need up to 100 units. Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy often need transfusions between treatments. Blood is also needed for patients in our burn unit as well as our NICU. It takes 1000 people donating every month to meet the needs of our patients.
Our next blood drive will be Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Great Park Ice parking lot, 888 Ridge Valley, Irvine, 92618.
Everyone who donates will receive a gift card for a pint of Baskin Robbins ice-cream, an Anaheim Ducks bag and hat. We are calling on you, your friends and family members, who are healthy and meet the donation criteria, to donate blood. All blood types are needed.
We have gone to great lengths to ensure the safety of donors by significantly reducing the number of donors we allow and additional steps have been taken to insure everyone’s safety. Social distancing policies will be in place, with masks mandatory for all donors and staff members.
Appointments are limited, so make yours today!
This event is by appointment only. We are unable to take walk-in donors due to social distancing requirements. In addition, please do not bring children, adults without appointments or pets as we are only able to let those with appointments in the donation area.
