Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to share with you that Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion Dr. Terrance Mayes has accepted an appointment at Stanford University. In his new role, Dr. Mayes will lead a new equity and justice initiative for Stanford Medicine. His last day at UCI is Sept. 11.

In pursuing this opportunity, we wish Dr. Mayes much success and thank him for his many contributions to UCI, the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, and UCI Health.

As the college's inaugural associate vice chancellor, Dr. Mayes's established a solid foundation for equity and inclusion programs across the School of Medicine, the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the planned School of Population and Public Health. He also served as Chief Diversity Officer for UCI Health.

Working in partnership with faculty, staff and students, Dr. Mayes played a key role in establishing and expanding a number of successful diversity initiatives, including the Diversity in Graduate Medical Education Residency Open House, the Leadership Education to Advance Diversity-African, Black and Caribbean (LEAD-ABC) medical education program, and the annual UCI Health Equity and Diversity Symposium. Furthermore, he served as co-investigator on a project to bridge the gap among Medical and Nursing Education, and the LGBTQ+ community.

These contributions, and so many others, reflect his passion for and commitment to social justice.

A future communication will outline next steps in filling this critical position.
Please join us in wishing Terrance well in his new endeavor.

Sincerely,
