Dear Colleagues

I am delighted to announce plans to construct the UCI Health Center for Advanced Care – a pediatric and adult patient care facility – which will be located in Irvine. UCI has considered establishing a robust clinical presence in coastal and southern Orange County for many years, and this is another exciting step toward that aspiration as we realize the vision of the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences and UCI Health.

The Center for Advanced Care will be located on Jamboree Road at the Birch Street intersection, an ideal site for Orange County residents including our staff, faculty, and their families. This investment on North Campus is a major step forward in our ongoing patient care expansion, including the newly opened UCI Health – Newport Beach site, and demonstrates the commitment of UCI Health to offer the best care, the type only available from a top-tier academic health center.

The facility will be home to the Center for Children’s Health, which will offer comprehensive pediatric primary and subspecialty outpatient care at a single site, a particular benefit for families with children that have complex medical needs. Our world-class physicians will also provide adult primary and specialty care. The center will be a hub for outpatient services, meeting the medical needs of the whole family in one, convenient location. Further improving access and ease, the facility is a one-stop location for outpatient care with inclusive laboratory and radiology facilities, imaging services and urgent care.

Of course, another significant benefit is that the Center for Advanced Care is an extension of our health sciences campus in Irvine, offering another major facility dedicated to discovery, teaching, and healing. University-based clinical research and interprofessional education, training and practice are being purposefully built into the center.

I want to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of Chad Lefteris, CEO, UCI Health; Dr. Michael Stamos, Dean, UCI School of Medicine; and Dr. Nasim Afsar, COO, UCI Health Ambulatory Care, and their teams. Their vision and skill have been essential to bringing this plan to fruition.

It is vitally important that the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences and UCI Health expand their reach to improve health and well-being by meeting the demand for state-of-the-art patient services, by addressing health inequities, and by advancing the frontiers of care in Orange County. The Center for Advanced Care does just that.
