UCI Executive Directive on Face Coverings:
To mitigate possible exposure to and help prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the UCI community, face coverings are required for all individuals on UCI-controlled property. This UCI executive directive is effective immediately and until further notice.

As researchers and medical and public health professionals in the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, our life work is dedicated to studying the human condition and preserving and enhancing the health and well-being of others. While we actively and thoughtfully strive to learn about the SARS-CoV-2 virus, there are some things we know for sure: Covering your nose and mouth with a face covering helps control the spread of the virus.

The medical communities throughout the world agree on this, as supported by guidance from the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the California Department of Public Health.

As the UCI academic campus begins a methodical, phased-in approach to bringing staff back from remote working, this directive will help keep our valued employees safe by reducing the spread of COVID-19. There is signage around campus to remind staff, faculty, students and visitors that face coverings are required while on UCI property. Unit leaders on-site are responsible for ensuring that team members who are on-site adhere to this directive. Employees may obtain a face covering from Environmental Health & Safety.

As a world-class academic research institution, UCI is a leader in healthcare and prevention. Wearing face coverings during a viral pandemic demonstrates not only that the UCI community practices the guidance we share, but that we care about each other and the greater good.
