Important Notice: Assumed Policies Must Still be Renewed

Dear Agent,

The policyholder opt-out phase of the 2019-2020 Assumption Reinsurance Depopulation Program (Assumption Program "Round 4") is drawing to a close, and policies will be assumed on June 1 if the policyholder has not opted out (chosen to stay with TWIA) by May 31. In order to ensure there are no lapses in coverage, we wanted to clarify some information about impending policy renewals.

Policies that renew before August 1
For policies renewing before August 1, please follow the normal renewal process and submit payment to TWIA. Policyholders will still receive a renewal offer from TWIA, though they will be legally considered the new carrier’s beginning June 1.

Policies that renew August 1 or later
For policies renewing on or after August 1, you will receive a renewal application from the depopulation carrier, but not TWIA.

Please note that the Texas Legislature passed a law this year to change the depopulation programs and improve the agent and policyholder experience by eliminating any decisions during storm season. However, the changes will not take place until after this coming program year – Round 5 (2020-2021).

Please contact Agent Services at AgentServices@TWIA.org or (800) 208-5948 if you have any questions.

Thank you,
