Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Sheefteh Khalili, PhD, will be joining the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs on February 18 as my chief of staff.  Khalili will work closely with me and my senior leadership team to implement the strategic vision of the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences and UCI Health.

Khalili joins us from UCI’s Office of the Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor where she served as executive director in the Office of Academic Planning since 2017.  In this role, she provided strategic guidance and leadership on the development and implementation of strategic campuswide projects and initiatives. Khalili has also worked closely with the leadership in Health Affairs on establishing the proposed Schools of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Population and Public Health.

Khalili’s executive leadership began in the nonprofit sector, with over ten years of experience as executive director and CFO for CalEarth Institute, an international non-profit foundation and educational research center.

Khalili earned her PhD in sociology at UCI, where she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences.  She earned a Master of Arts in ethnic studies at San Francisco State University.

I am grateful to the search committee for their dedicated efforts and vital contributions to the search process. My personal thanks, along with gratitude for all of Health Affairs, are extended to Rebecca Brusuelas-James, who so ably served in the role for the past two years and will return to her full-time role as associate vice chancellor of finance for the COHS and associate dean for finance and clinical operations in the School of Medicine.

Khalili brings a breadth of knowledge and experience and we look forward to her joining Health Affairs.

Please join me in welcoming her to our team.
