Holiday Hazards:
Electrical and food safety


As we draw closer to the holidays, many of us will be decking the halls, festooning our homes and workplaces with décor and getting cozy and warm for the winter (pending our next cold front). But unfortunately, there are safety hazards associated with those festivities. According to Electrical Safety Foundation International, more than 20,000 workers have been injured in workplace electrical accidents over the last ten years and roughly 3,300 home fires are caused by extension cords.

Nobody wants to spend the holidays in the hospital for electrocution, so whether you’re at home or at work hanging lights, using power tools or everyday appliances like a slow/pressure cooker or space heater, watch this video and read these electrical safety tips to stay grounded during the holiday season.

    Register for the upcoming Safety Training Days session on
    Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Learning and Development Center, 4501 Leeland Street

    • Hazard Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER)

    Walk-in registration is at 8:30 a.m.
    Training sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon
