Interaction Between the Two Depopulation Programs

Agents with Policies Selected for Depopulation:

We know as an agent you want to act in the best interest of your policyholders. In an effort to aid policyholders in making the best possible decision, we wanted to make you aware of some of the key differences between the two depopulation programs, which are running simultaneously.

The Voluntary Market Depopulation Program (Voluntary Program) and the Assumption Reinsurance Depopulation Program (Assumption Program) were both authorized by the Texas Legislature in 2015. They are designed to provide TWIA policyholders with alternative options for wind and hail insurance in the private market.

There is a chance you could have a single policy selected by carriers participating in both programs.

Each program has distinct characteristics that you should be aware of when evaluating offers. The main differences involve timing and policyholder protections. Click here to learn more about the interaction between the two programs.

We have also provided the TWIA Depopulation Programs Comparison chart below as a reference tool.

Notice of New Law & Future Program Improvements

Please note that the Texas Legislature passed a law this year to change the depopulation programs and improve agent and policyholder experience by eliminating any decisions during storm season. However, the changes will not take place until after this coming program year – Round 4 (2019-2020).

Sincerely,
