Dear Agent,
TWIA is ready for the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, which began on Saturday, June 1. We have secured $4.2 billion in funding and updated our Catastrophe (CAT) Incident Response Plan so we can quickly and effectively respond to policyholders’ needs should a hurricane strike the Texas coast this year.
- TWIA CAT Plan – At the core of our storm preparedness program is our CAT Plan, which is updated and tested each year. It outlines how TWIA prepares for, responds to, and aids in the recovery process for catastrophic weather disasters.
- Funded to $4.2 billion – TWIA’s 2019 reinsurance program, effective June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020, provides $4.2 billion in total aggregate funding sources, an amount in excess of the statutory minimum funding. Learn more on our Funding 101 page.
Preparedness Tips for Policyholders
TWIA urges all policyholders to include the following steps on their hurricane planning checklist:
- Update your insurance coverage – TWIA encourages all coastal residents to have both windstorm and flood policies.
- Understand TWIA coverage and how we operate – To avoid any surprises during a claim, brush up on the basics about TWIA, our policies, and the claims process.
- Take pictures of your home and personal property – Having an inventory will help expedite the claims process and help ensure an accurate claim payment for your covered belongings.
- Know where important documents are stored – And don’t leave them behind if you evacuate.
- Prepare your property – A little preparation can go a long way in reducing property damage. Consider installing storm shutters, trimming trees, and reinforcing garage doors.
- Visit TWIA’s Hurricane Preparedness page for more recommendations.
