Safety Bulletin - January 2019
Safety resolutions

The new year is underway. Some of your resolutions may have gone by the wayside, but it’s not too late to re-prioritize safety. Write a new chapter and resolve to make 2019 the safest year yet. To get started, add these five safety resolutions to your list of personal goals for 2019:

  • Set a safe example: Attitudes can be contagious. When you adopt a positive attitude about safety,  those habits will catch on with your colleagues. Speak up in safety meetings and training, share your experiences and knowledge. If you see a potential hazard, or even something that needs a little improvement, speak up. Your input will help keep everyone safe.

  • Practice good house keeping: Don’t wait for spring cleaning. Keep your work space tidy and free of hazards.

  • Wear your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): What keeps you safe on the job? Do you have your ear plugs, hard hat, gloves, reflective vest or safety boots? These items you wear every day are  subject to lots of wear and tear. Evaluate the condition of your PPE. Is it comfortable and effective? Does it need to be replaced? Are you taking proper care of it?

  • Engage in safety training: Learn CPR, sign up for a Drivers Safety Course - it’s required for employees who drive on city business. This year, commit yourself to getting the most you can out of safety training, and see just how safe you can become.

  • Eliminate distracted driving: Motor vehicle incidents are the second most common cause of workplace injuries among city employees. Ditch the distractions and commit to stop texting and talking while driving.

Remember: Zero is possible: Zero Accidents. Zero Injuries. Zero Compromises.
