Dear Agent,

Hurricane Harvey reminded us all how destructive hurricanes can be, and how much of a difference it makes to be prepared for one – both for citizens of the coast and for the organizations that serve them.

June 1 marked the beginning of Hurricane Season, and we want to share some of the ways TWIA is prepared and ready should a weather emergency strike the coast.

Hurricane Preparedness Resources for You and Your Clients – In addition to ensuring that our organization is ready for a hurricane event, we also want coastal communities and policyholders to be prepared. We offer a variety of sources for hurricane preparedness information, which we hope you will share with your clients:

  • Shareable GraphicThis graphic encourages policyholders to not only have insurance coverage, but to understand what it means. Feel free to share on any of your digital platforms.
  • TWIA.org – Our website is full of hurricane preparedness and recovery information.
    • Hurricane Season Is Here. Are You Ready? – Steps policyholders can take to protect themselves, their families, and their property in the event of a hurricane.
    • Our Hurricane Preparedness page – Information on coastal building codes and TWIA eligibility, steps to prioritize repairs after a storm, and more.
    • Claims Center – Redesigned this year, it’s your one-stop-shop for claims information, including: what to expect after filing a claim and how to dispute a claim decision.
  • Social Media – Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for hurricane preparedness resources, tips, and news.

CAT Plan – At the core of our storm preparedness program is the Catastrophe (CAT) Incident Response Plan, which is updated and tested each year. The 2018 plan retains the storm-tested components of 2017’s plan and incorporates improvements born of our Hurricane Harvey experience. It outlines how TWIA mitigates the effects of, prepares for, responds to, and recovers from catastrophic weather disasters.

Funded to $4.6 Billion – TWIA’s 2018 reinsurance program, effective June 1, 2018, to May 31, 2019, provides $4.6 billion in total aggregate funding sources, an amount in excess of the statutory minimum funding.

As we progress through the 2018 hurricane season, TWIA wants to remain a valuable resource to you and your clients. If you have any questions, please contact our Agent Services team at agentservices@twia.org or 800-788-8247.

Sincerely,

Texas Windstorm Insurance Association
