Dear Agent,

We are in the process of reinstating our Lapse Notice letters. Policyholders will be sent this notice via USPS 10 days after the expiration date of their policy to inform them they do not have coverage. Agents of record will also receive the notice through Policy Center.

To help you expect when a policyholder will receive one of these letters, here is some key information regarding lapse notices:

  • Lapse notices are for renewals only, not for new business submissions that were submitted but no money ever received
  • Lapse notices will be sent for both residential and commercial TWIA policies
  • Lapse notices are generated 10 days after the expiration date of the policy if the renewal status is Payment Pending, Withdrawn, Draft, or Calculated
  • Lapse notices are sent directly to the insured via USPS mail
  • Lapse notices are not sent if the status of the policy is already cancelled (this is if the agent/policyholder sent a cancellation request, or if TWIA sent a legal cancellation notice)
  • Policies that were depopulated will not get a lapse notice

Please share this information with your clients. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Agent Services at agentservices@twia.org or 800-788-8247.

Sincerely,

Texas Windstorm Insurance Association
