| How to Draft and Publish Scientific Papers | The School of Medicine Office of Research is pleased to announce a two-day, in-person workshop, “How to Draft and Publish Scientific Papers,” conducted by Dr. Randy Levinson. Dr. Levinson brings extensive experience as a former scientific manuscript editor for Nature Research.
The workshop is organized in three separate but interrelated modules: (1) general concepts underlying effective scientific communication, (2) Method and Logic, or how to optimize the content and structure of a scientific paper, and (3) an explanation of the peer review and publication process. The workshop includes instruction, practical exercises, peer-to-peer interactions, and feedback on participants’ drafts.
Applicants must be members of the School of Medicine community (junior faculty, postdocs, research staff, clinical fellows and senior graduate and medical students). Attendance is limited to 24 individuals. Learn more and apply here.

The fellowship is part of the Estée Lauder endowment established to honor the late Dr. Paolo Sassone-Corsi’s legacy in epigenetics and circadian research.

| Limited Opportunity: NIH/NIGMS Collaborative Program Grant for Multidisciplinary Teams | The NIH/NIGMS Collaborative Program Grant for Multidisciplinary Teams is designed to support highly integrated research teams of three to six PDs/PIs to address ambitious and challenging research questions that are important for the mission of NIGMS and are beyond the scope of one or two investigators.
UCI may submit two applications in response to this call per review round; therefore, interested applicants wishing to apply for the Jan. 26, 2024, deadline are asked to submit a preliminary application via the UCI Review Application portal by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2023.

| Cancer Health Disparity Research and Interventional Studies | We are excited to announce a funding opportunity by the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) aimed at addressing cancer health disparities within our community. Awards are intended to support: research projects and the development and launch of institutional, investigator-initiated interventional clinical trials that address cancer health disparities in Orange County. Up to 3 awards will be issued for budgets up to $200,000 per year for two years. The estimated funding period is Feb. 1, 2024 to Jan. 31, 2026. PIs must be UCI faculty, CHOC Hyundai Cancer Institute-affiliated physicians, or collaborators at the Long Beach VA Medical Center. Collaborations with other NCI cancer centers are allowed. | Clinical Observational (CO) Studies in Musculoskeletal, Rheumatic and Skin Diseases (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (PAR-24-036) | The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to encourage Research Project Grant (R01) applications to pursue clinical observational (CO) studies to obtain data necessary for designing clinical studies for musculoskeletal, rheumatic, or skin diseases or conditions. Research data from observational studies supported by this NOFO can enhance clinical study design by providing essential information about disease symptoms, stages, and timing of disease progression; comorbid conditions; availability of potential research participants; and outcomes that are important to patients. | All of Us Researcher Workbench Support: Train-the-Trainer Sessions | Train-the-Trainer sessions are for researchers interested in learning to proficiently use the All of Us Researcher Workbench. Sessions include Introduction to the Workbench, Creating a Dataset: Workspaces, Phenotypes and Cohorts, and Genomic Analysis: Genome-wide association study (GWAS) and phenome-wide association study (PheWAS).
Attendees must be registered to use the Workbench. Visit ResearchAllofUs.org to register. Train-the-Trainer, an 8-week training course, is hosted by Baylor College of Medicine’s All of Us Evenings with Genetics Research Program. Sessions build on one another, but you can join sessions at any time.
