Dear agent,

Hurricane Beryl is within the 80 degrees west longitude and 20 degrees north latitude, which requires TWIA to put a policy moratorium in effect.

With the current storm trajectory, Hurricane Beryl is expected to impact TWIA’s coverage area.

What happens when a policy moratorium is in effect?
  • TWIA cannot issue new policies or increase coverage on existing policies or renewals.
  • Agents cannot quote and submit new business applications or policy changes.
  • Renewals can be issued by making a payment if:
    • There are no increases in coverage.
    • The due date has not passed.
When does a policy moratorium go into effect?
When there’s a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. For more information, visit www.twia.org/moratoriums.

What happens when a policy moratorium is lifted?
  • TWIA will begin accepting applications and payments at 12:01 a.m. the next day.
  • Policy moratoriums are lifted when the TWIA General Manager determines the storm no longer threatens property anywhere within the TWIA coverage area.
  • We will notify you through an agent bulletin when the policy moratorium is lifted.
We are here to help. Contact the Policy Services team at agentservices@twia.org or (800) 788-8247. Our normal business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Sincerely,
Texas Windstorm Insurance Association
