22nd Annual AMOS Conference | A hybrid Advanced Maui Optical and Space Surveillance Technologies (AMOS) conference was held 15-17 September at the Wailua Beach Resort in Maui, Hawai’i. Despite the strict Hawaii entry constraints, over 660 participated onsite, including three USRA conference attendees, with over 400 online viewers. The focus of this conference was Space Domain Awareness, with an emphasis on detecting and maintaining custody of over 35,000 space objects in the near-Earth environment, many of them active military and civilian satellites. This year saw a surge in AFRL and U.S. Space Force as well as academic interest in how to do the same job, but in the cislunar environment, where the increased distance and sheer volume of space are not your friends. The photo is a view of the speakers’ podium, and if you could look closely at the sponsors banner to the right of the speaker, you woul see the USRA logo. While USRA’s sponsorship is alphabetically the last, it is one of the most prominent sponsors listed. USRA has been a corporate sponsor of this AMOS event for over a decade. | |
