Greetings:
Overnight, Hurricane Rafael crossed the boundaries of 80 degrees west longitude and 20 degrees north latitude, triggering the requirement that TWIA place a moratorium on accepting new or increased coverage applications.
While current forecasts indicate that Rafael may make landfall in Louisiana, impacts on the Texas coast are possible. TWIA’s Plan of Operation requires that the moratorium remain in effect until the TWIA General Manager determines that the storm no longer threatens property within the designated catastrophe area of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association.
Texas FAIR Plan Association (TFPA) has also implemented a policy moratorium for the 14 coastal TWIA counties and all of Harris County.
We will update you when the moratoriums have been lifted.
Your constituents or their insurance agents with questions or concerns may contact Policy Services at agentservices@twia.org.or (800) 788-8247. Our normal business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Should you have any questions, please contact me at DDurden@twia.org.or (512) 505-2255.
Sincerely,
David Durden
