| Highlighting UC Irvine’s Shared Core Facilities for Researchers — The Center for Neural Circuit Mapping and Good Manufacturing Practice |
| The UC Irvine Center for Neural Circuit Mapping (CNCM) is a multidisciplinary hub advancing understanding of brain circuitry in health and disease. It brings together experts across neuroscience, engineering, physical sciences and computational fields to foster collaborative research. The center drives technology development and training to investigate neurodevelopmental, neuropsychiatric, and neurodegenerative disorders. Speaker: Michele Wu, Viral Core Manager The UC Irvine Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facility is a state-of-the-art resource enabling FDA-compliant production of cell and gene therapies. It supports internal and external investigators in advancing regenerative and immunotherapy treatments for neurological diseases, cancer and other complex conditions. The facility drives translational research by providing manufacturing, regulatory and training support for clinical applications. | Research Security Training Requirement for Federal Researchers (Effective May 25, 2026) |
| Beginning May 25, 2026, all personnel listed on federally sponsored proposals — including federal flow-through proposals — must complete Research Security training. The training must be completed within 12 months of proposal submission.
Along with many other federal agencies, NIH has implemented the research security training requirement. If you have completed the Research Security training within the past 12 months, you do not need to retake it until it expires. If you have not yet completed the training, we recommend doing so now to avoid potential delays in proposal submission or award processing. The Research Security Training is available on the UC Learning Center.

| Sunmin Lee, ScD (Medicine), was awarded an NIH R01 titled, “Enhancing Sleep Health Among Asian Americans: A Community-Engaged Intervention.” This project focuses on Asian American sleep difficulties. Her team will evaluate the effects of a linguistically- and culturally adapted community-engaged video conference sleep intervention delivered by trained bilingual and bicultural interventionists recruited from Asian American communities. This community-engaged program would generate data for a potentially scalable sleep program tailored for Asians and inform a larger future study to improve sleep among a high-risk group and potentially reduce sleep-related health disparities.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Candidates must apply within one year prior to beginning their postdoctoral position or within the first two years of their postdoctoral training (including resubmissions).
- Candidates must commit a minimum of 9 person-months (75% full-time professional effort) to the career development program; recipients of an F99/K00 are not eligible, and current/former PDs/PIs of R01s, P01s, P50s, or major individual K awards are also not eligible.
- By the time of award, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or lawful permanent resident; foreign organizations and non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply.

| NCI Early-Stage Innovative Technology Development for Basic and Clinical Cancer Research (R61 - RFA-CA-27-001) |
| This R61 award provides support to develop technologies that offer new capabilities for the molecular or cellular characterization of cancer, or for improved handling and quality control of biospecimens for basic, clinical, or epidemiological cancer research. Funded projects will conduct proof-of-concept/pilot studies to test the technical feasibility of a proposed method, tool, assay, platform, or instrument. This opportunity is part of NCI's Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) Program. Awards are capped at $150,000, with approximately 20 awards anticipated.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Proposed technologies must be focused on cancer-relevant use cases and offer new capabilities, not simply apply existing technologies to new biological or clinical questions.
- Projects must be early-stage, proposing proof-of-concept or pilot studies to establish technical feasibility.

| This R33 award provides support for exploratory research projects focused on further development and technical validation of emerging technologies that offer novel capabilities for the molecular or cellular characterization of cancer, or for improved handling and quality control of biospecimens used in basic, clinical, or epidemiological cancer research. Applications should propose technologies that have overcome major feasibility gaps (supported by preliminary data) but still require additional development and rigorous validation to encourage adoption by the research community. This opportunity is part of NCI's Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) Program. Awards are capped at $300,000, with approximately 13 awards anticipated.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Proposed technologies must be focused on cancer-relevant use cases and offer novel capabilities; projects applying existing technologies to hypothesis-driven biological or clinical questions are not responsive.
- Preliminary data must demonstrate that major feasibility gaps have been overcome, with the project advancing further development and technical validation.
